Haka Ara movile continues to bring municipal services closer to neighborhoods

By: The Institutional Communications Office of the Municipality of Rapa Nui

Facilitating access to various services for the residents of Rapa Nui is the main objective of Haka Ara Mobile, a municipal initiative that began as a monthly activity in the neighborhoods but has evolved into a broad territorial deployment of more than a week of work in each sector, allowing for the direct identification of the needs of the entire community.

The operation includes citizen surveys, street repairs, improvement and beautification of public spaces, infrastructure maintenance, and a series of actions aimed at improving the quality of life of rapa nui families.

The last week of August was the turn of La Colonia, located in the northern sector of Hanga Roa. Teams from various municipal units were deployed to the area, first to assess residents’ needs, and then to carry out cleaning tasks, including the removal of small illegal dumpsites, tree trimming, and debris removal, both from public spaces and from the yards of those who requested it.

From Monday, August 24th to Saturday, August 29th, officials from the Operations Department carried out this intervention, which allows families on Rapa Nui to enjoy a better environment both inside and outside their homes.

The operation concluded with the ‘Ūmaŋa Haka Ara Móvil, a mobile service fair where attendees could take their pets for veterinary checkups; participate in glass recycling and textile reuse workshops; receive legal advice for various legal procedures; get health checkups at the Hanga Roa Hospital stand and the mobile dental clinic; participate in sports activities; and view the “Neighborhood Memory” exhibit, which displayed historical photographs of the area.

“We have been promoting this project with great care since 2026, after we took over the new municipal administration. We are very happy because it is no longer a one-off event lasting only one day; we have managed to expand its scope. We are talking about a full week of work that allows us to make more profound improvements to continue bringing the Municipality closer to the neighborhoods for the benefit of the families of the community, which is our main objective,” said the Mayor of Rapa Nui, Elizabeth Arévalo Pakarati.

With La Colonia, there have now been four Haka Ara Mobile operations carried out so far this year, following those that took place in Arapiki, Haŋa Piko, and Mataveri, and they will continue to be carried out during this second half of 2026, to continue expanding their reach to the entire territory.
