Adventure Terevaka — Horseback Riding & Trekking on Easter Island

From our home nestled among the eucalyptus trees, we invite you to take in the view from above of this small island in the middle of the sea.
Adventure Terevaka is one of the most unique experiences you can have on Rapa Nui. From their ranch nestled among eucalyptus trees on the outskirts of Hanga Roa, Marta and her family — native guides of the island with over 24 years of experience — take you on horseback to the summit of Terevaka volcano, the highest point on the island at 507 meters above sea level.
The reward at the top is hard to put into words: a full 360-degree view of the Pacific Ocean in every direction, with no land visible anywhere on the horizon. One of the few experiences on the planet where you can see the entire surrounding sea from the summit of an island.
What activities does Adventure Terevaka offer?
Sunset horseback ride — the signature experience
The most popular tour combines the ascent on horseback through Terevaka’s fields and forests with arriving at the summit just before sunset. The ride lasts approximately 3 hours and includes pickup and drop-off at your hotel. The horses are well-trained and the guides adapt the pace to each rider’s experience — even complete beginners feel comfortable from the very first steps.
Groups are limited to a maximum of 6 people, ensuring personalized attention and an intimate experience far removed from the island’s larger group tours.
Trekking to Terevaka
For those who prefer going on foot, Adventure Terevaka also offers a guided hike to the highest point of Rapa Nui. The trekking route crosses the same volcanic landscapes and meadows as the horseback ride, with stops to learn about the island’s endemic flora and fauna.
Stargazing nights
Rapa Nui has one of the darkest and clearest skies in the South Pacific, and Terevaka — far from Hanga Roa’s lights — is the ideal place to experience it. Adventure Terevaka organises night tours to observe the sky from the volcano summit.
Reforestation — leave your mark on Rapa Nui
On some routes, Adventure Terevaka includes the option of planting a tree on the Terevaka slopes, contributing to the island’s long-running reforestation effort. A meaningful way for your visit to leave something lasting behind in the landscape you’ve come to admire.
