Our dive center is named MIKE RAPU, our founder. Mike was born and raised on the island where he became a great diver apnea and expert underwater hunter. About us
Our dive center is named MIKE RAPU, our founder. Mike was born and raised on the island where he became a great diver apnea and expert underwater hunter. In 1989 he established his diving center in the Hanga Roa cove becoming the most important diving center on the island and one of the most recognized in Chile.
After several sporting successes such as: Vice champion of underwater hunting in the Open of the island of Raiatea in French Polynesia, Vice champion of underwater hunting in Easter Island, Selected Chilean underwater hunting for the World Cup in Croatia, National Record of freediving in constant weight mode , where it descended to 61 meters deep. He beat the South American record of apnea in 2000 descending to free lung 71 meters deep, with 3 minutes and 48 seconds under the sea. Participate in the world underwater hunting championship held in Papeete-Tahiti. That same year he is elected “Best National Sportsman” in the area of underwater sports by the Circle of Sports Journalists of Chile and travels to train in Cuba with the great teacher of depth apnea Deborah Andollo. In Havana, Mike breaks his own record while training, descending this time to 79 meters deep.
Today MIKE RAPU continues to make his passion his way of life and continues to do what he likes best: to dive and guide his visitors who come to discover the incredible underwater biodiversity of the island, one of the best diving destinations in the world … . “The center of the world”…
Initiations or “baptisms”
They correspond to dives assisted by instructors where the diver does not require any type of diving experience. The dives last around 30 minutes and are carried out at the level of the coral reef, which is where the marine life develops, so the students will be able to interact in a safe way both for them and for the environment with the flora and fauna of the place.
Excursions / guided dives
Every year hundreds of divers from all over the world come to Rapa Nui in search of one of the clearest waters on the planet.
It reaches 60 meters and the temperature fluctuates between 18 ° and 26 °, being able to appreciate to perfection the beautiful submarine relief that includes innumerable caverns, cliffs, arcs and bridges, product of the volcanic origin of the island.
Snorkeling
Appreciating the volcanic geography of Rapa Nui from the sea is one of the activities that you can not miss.
The best way to do it, is taking a boat tour in the cove of Hanga Roa.
