A fun and colorful day of traditional games, Chilean food, cueca dance competitions, and live music took place in Haŋa Vare Vare during the second annual Haka Ara Family Festival 2026, organized by the Rapa Nui Municipality in celebration of the National Holidays.
Numerous families enthusiastically joined this outdoor activity, held on Saturday, September 12. It was a radiant day where they could visit the various stands and enjoy the taste of delicious empanadas, Chilean sweets, popcorn, and, of course, cueca dance performances and the presentation of folk groups who delighted those present with a varied repertoire, highlighting the traditional songs and dances of the island.

There were sack races, the traditional and eagerly awaited bingo, ring toss, hopscotch, contests, and much more, all in an atmosphere of joy and wholesome entertainment that brought smiles to the faces of those who attended this great event for all ages, which is part of the “Haka Ara Family Agenda” promoted by the municipality.
The Mayor of Rapa Nui, Elizabeth Arévalo Pakarati, expressed her enthusiasm for the ever-increasing participation of residents, as she considers it a clear sign that the community is embracing the activities organized by the Municipality, turning them into truly enjoyable outings for families to share and enjoy together.
“I want to especially highlight the large turnout for this second edition of our Family Fonda, which was prepared with great care by our municipal teams. It motivates us to continue creating spaces for families to come together as a community. It was a celebration where we could enjoy ourselves and experience all the cultural diversity we have here on the island,” stated the mayor.

In that regard, Elizabeth Arévalo Pakarati emphasized that the great success of this second Family Fonda “demonstrates that the activities we develop at the Municipality, which are part of our Haka Ara Family Agenda, continue to grow and become established as truly enjoyable options for families in the community, as well as for all those who visit us and are captivated by our culture, which makes us truly happy.”
