Te Pito Kura

Ahu Te Pito Kura is the last important archaeological site on the coast before reaching Ovahe. It is a platform almost 100 meters long, formed by large blocks of basalt rock, carved and fitted with mastery, to support a single Moai, called Moai or Paro, 9.45 meters high, the largest that was ever erected on an Ahu, not counting its Pukao. Around 1840 this colossus was brought down due to tribal conflicts. In the surrounding area, ruins of ancient human settlements in this region can be seen.

On the western side of Ahu Te Pito Kura is an enigmatic stone sphere known as Te Pito te Henua, the navel of the world.
