Gracias a las condiciones clim\u00e1ticas, Rapa Nui produce las chirimoyas m\u00e1s sabrosas del mundo seg\u00fan afirman la experta de la Universidad Cat\u00f3lica de la Estaci\u00f3n Experimental de la Facultad de Agronom\u00eda en Quillota. Pocos son los productores que se dedican hoy a la exportaci\u00f3n de chirimoya. De hecho son fundamentalmente cuatro: Espa\u00f1a, Per\u00fa, Chile Continental y Nueva Zelanda, pero el a\u00f1o venidero se podr\u00e1 sumar la isla Rapa Nui.<\/p>\n

Bene Tuki Pat\u00e9 , un eximio escultor isle\u00f1o, a sus 70 a\u00f1os, pasea feliz por su parcela enfrentando la pronta poda de sus 500 \u00e1rboles, todos chirimoyos de la familia de las Anon\u00e1ceas que alcanzan hasta 8 mts. de altura. El fruto tiene forma de coraz\u00f3n y puede pesar desde 100 gr. hasta m\u00e1s de un kilo. Nos cuenta que los plant\u00f3 hace 10 a\u00f1os: \u201cEmpec\u00e9 con este proyecto porque alguien lleg\u00f3 de visita a mi casa y vio una chirimoya que ten\u00eda en mi mesa. Era de una mata que ten\u00eda en mi casa. Pidi\u00f3 probarla y luego me dijo que era la chirimoya m\u00e1s rica que hab\u00eda probado. Era nada menos que un productor de chirimoyos de Quillota y me lav\u00f3 el cerebro para que comenzara con una plantaci\u00f3n en la isla. Primero no estuve muy convencido, pero lleg\u00f3 el momento e invert\u00ed en 800 plantas de La Serena por tener la misma latitud que la isla. Las traslad\u00e9 a Hijuelas donde mi cu\u00f1ado para embarcarlas a la isla. Empec\u00e9 a preparar la tierra y las plant\u00e9.\u201d Bene Tuki, como uno de los mejores escultores de la isla, viajaba mucho gracias a las numerosas invitaciones que recib\u00eda de otros pa\u00edses para exponer su arte. Finalmente el tiempo no le alcanz\u00f3 y abandon\u00f3 su plantaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n

\u201cEl a\u00f1o pasado me pas\u00f3 un chasco. Vi chirimoyas en la feria y en varios negocios. Lo encontr\u00e9 muy raro pues sab\u00eda que era el \u00fanico que ten\u00eda plantaci\u00f3n de chirimoyos. Fui a mi parcela y vi algunos cercos rotos y \u00e1rboles sin frutas. Ah\u00ed tom\u00e9 la decisi\u00f3n de volcarme a productor de chirimoyas. El empuje final me lo dio Carlos Cabrera, un agro-ec\u00f3logo, quien me ense\u00f1o a hacer lo correcto mediante una inversi\u00f3n m\u00ednima. Mi mujer, mi gran administradora, me convenci\u00f3 invertir en el riego y hoy soy un hombre feliz. Vengo todos los d\u00edas, saco las hojas de los \u00e1rboles y estoy a punto de comenzar con la poda para lo cual contrat\u00e9 el a\u00f1o pasado a Mariela Poblete Estay, una experta en polinizaci\u00f3n y poda de chirimoyos de la Universidad Cat\u00f3lica, de la Estaci\u00f3n experimental de la Facultad de Agronom\u00eda. Ella nos manifiesta que: \u201cal venir en octubre pasado supuestamente a polinizar, me encontr\u00e9 con unas plantas mal trabajadas por lo que no se pudo polinizar mucho. Hice algunas recomendaciones y ah\u00ed nos encontramos con Carlos Cabrera qui\u00e9n colabor\u00f3 con todo lo dem\u00e1s.<\/p>\n

Juan Carlos Cabrera vive con Mamo Atan con qui\u00e9n maneja un proyecto de plantaci\u00f3n de hortalizas org\u00e1nicas en la calle Ava Rei Pua: \u201cPrimero fue el agua. Hicimos funcionar el tranque, luego dise\u00f1\u00e9 un sistema de riego tecnificado adecuado a la necesidad de los chirimoyos y continuar con una l\u00ednea 100% org\u00e1nica con el prop\u00f3sito de mantener el suelo sustentable en el tiempo, sin usar insecticidas para no afectar la salud de los seres humanos. Los resultados de la primera etapa del proyecto de renovaci\u00f3n del huerto de Bene Tuki fueron buenos, se logr\u00f3 un buen crecimiento de los \u00e1rboles, se obtuvo una cosecha de alta calidad que se vendi\u00f3 a un buen valor. Como proyecci\u00f3n a futuro, las plantas tuvieron un crecimiento del 400% y aumentar\u00e1n la capacidad en 200 % en la pr\u00f3xima temporada. Estamos ensayando incluso obtener dos cosechas el pr\u00f3ximo a\u00f1o. Este a\u00f1o dise\u00f1aremos un sistema nuevo para potenciar la captaci\u00f3n de aguas de lluvia y recoger mayor metros c\u00fabicos de agua en verano.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sistema de Riego simple<\/h2>\n

El agro-ec\u00f3logo, Juan Carlos Cabrera, recomienda un sistema de riego simple. Primero se habilita un tranque de aproximadamente 16 x 30 metros de largo, con una capacidad de 750 m3. Se dise\u00f1a el riego tecnificado para cubrir la necesidad de los \u00e1rboles plantados para regar y tambi\u00e9n fertilizar. Bene Tuki us\u00f3 un sistema de baja energ\u00eda y costo (2 millones 200 mil pesos) para evitar la contaminaci\u00f3n de gases. La bomba para extraer el agua del tranque es una bomba de 4 tiempos que consume un litro de bencina por hora y tiene la capacidad de regar simult\u00e1neamente una hect\u00e1rea. El sistema de conducci\u00f3n de agua es Lifelat m\u00f3vil que lleva incorporado un filtro de 120 Mech. Este sistema conlleva 7 v\u00e1lvulas de control de caudal y presiones para mantener el flujo de agua igual en todos los goteros. Por las excesivas pendientes del terreno cada planta cuenta con 4 goteros de 4,2 litros por hora.<\/p>\n

A Bene se le ve feliz vigilando sus \u00e1rboles y deshoj\u00e1ndolos para la pronta poda. Sus pr\u00f3ximas inversiones ocupan hoy todo su tiempo. Hoy dej\u00f3 su arte escult\u00f3rico de lado. Dice que su galer\u00eda frente a su casa quedar\u00e1 como un museo y ser\u00e1 su legado para la isla. \u201cEstoy tan metido en la chirimoya que mi escultura est\u00e1 \u2018stand by\u2019. Me dedico 100% a mi parcela y estoy muy agradecido de Juan Carlos, qui\u00e9n me ense\u00f1\u00f3 sin cobrarme su trabajo. Juan Carlos promueve la agronom\u00eda ecol\u00f3gica sustentable para la isla. Para ello deber\u00edamos tener productos org\u00e1nicos exportables, primero para nuestro propio consumo y luego para la exportaci\u00f3n. No se debe depender solo de la pesca y el turismo. Queremos incentivar a otros agricultores que planten sus parcelas para lograr el auto-sustento de la parte alimentaria. La verdad es que nosotros no deber\u00edamos tener gobernadores ni autoridades rapanui porque siempre te dicen que si a todo. Todos somos familiares y ninguno se atreve a negarles algo por temor o por evitar problemas. As\u00ed no se educa a nadie. Hasta hoy en d\u00eda no hemos logrado ni siquiera sustentar a los 8 mil habitantes que somos, todo se trae desde el continente.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cLa agro-ecolog\u00eda contempla la conservaci\u00f3n de recursos naturales, la protecci\u00f3n del medio ambiente y el aporte social a la comunidad. Esto \u00faltimo debido a que en los tiempos modernos cualquier inversi\u00f3n contempla solo recursos materiales, pero no contempla el bienestar de los trabajadores como un requisito. La ecolog\u00eda le interesa que el ser humano se sienta feliz,\u201d remata Juan Carlos Cabrera e invita a otros rapanui a seguir el ejemplo de Bene Tuki y procurar el ansiado auto-sustento de la isla.<\/p>\n
