{"id":3961,"date":"2019-04-02T19:21:34","date_gmt":"2019-04-02T19:21:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/moevarua.com\/?p=3961"},"modified":"2025-12-10T03:24:31","modified_gmt":"2025-12-10T03:24:31","slug":"anakena","status":"publish","type":"lugares","link":"https:\/\/moevarua.com\/en\/lugar\/anakena\/","title":{"rendered":"ANAKENA"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\"><em>The Bay of the Kings<\/em><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Anakena, also called Hanga Ra\u00b4u o te Ariki (Bay of the Great Kings), is the place where the two great canoes of the mythical King Hotu Matua and his sister Ava Rei Pua, together with their followers, are supposed to have arrived.&nbsp;&nbsp;In the head of the bay on both sides, there are three terraces resembling temples built with enormous blocks.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"679\" src=\"https:\/\/moevarua.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/3-1024x679.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3612\" srcset=\"https:\/\/moevarua.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/3-1024x679.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/moevarua.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/3-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/moevarua.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/3-768x509.jpg 768w, https:\/\/moevarua.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/3-1080x716.jpg 1080w, https:\/\/moevarua.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/3-600x398.jpg 600w, https:\/\/moevarua.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/3.jpg 1980w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In the center of the beach area is the magnificent Ahu Nau Nau, about 70 meters (230 feet) long, which has between 10 and 12 Moai (statues) associated with it.&nbsp;The ends of the platform are slightly elevated so that it looks like a ship.&nbsp;It was restored by Sergio Rapu between 1978 and 1980.&nbsp;&nbsp;Its present five Moai are the best preserved of all those still on the Island due to having spent a long time buried in the sand.&nbsp;They represent deceased young men of royal lineage.&nbsp;During the excavations, several pavements of older Ahu (ceremonial platforms) were uncovered, as well as remains of&nbsp;&nbsp;residences, an extraordinary eye from a statue made of white coral with a pupil of red scoria, and the body of a rare female Moai.&nbsp;Both the eye and the female Moai are on exhibit at the P. S.
